Meet the Grace Church Leaders.

At present, the two Grace Church Elders are accountable to the Groundlevel  Team  who oversee 85 Churches in UK. We are very happy to subscribe to the principle underlying the Groundlevel Philosophy ‘partnership without ownership’.  The Elders are supported by a Youth Leader, who oversees the increasingly vital work with young people in Scotter numbering at present about 108 attendees. In turn Carol is supported by 14 committed workers.

The Leadership

Dr. John Birch leads the team and his gifting is within support and counselling but is not comfortable with the title and office of Pastor.  He believes that gifting is a ministry rather than an Office as such.  John has a vision for rural ministry including a desire to reach youth through relationship.

Throughout his adult life, John has balanced a senior role in The Health Service with pastoral responsibility in Church life. He is not opposed to paid leadership in Church but prefers a voluntary model which allows the Church to support missionary work at home and abroad more strategically by re-chanelling finances.

During his student life at Edinburgh he was privileged to include academic work in Biblical Studies, and has enjoyed learning in Edinburgh, Durham and Newcastle Universities. By profession he is a registered nurse and left the Health Service in 1994 as Executive Director of North Lincolnshire Health Authority. He is married to Bridget who has a key part of the work in her own right and gives hospitality to many.

John is supported by fellow leader, Jim Dunn. Jim’s gifting - and vision – is to preach and teach the Word of God in ways that draw attention to, and focus interest upon, its life changing power. He conducts Life Change workshops and key issue seminars and brings regular Bible teaching on important, life related topics.
His background is in Engineering and Behavioural Psychology. He is an associate of the Royal College of Science and Technology and a graduate of Glasgow University.  Following a lengthy career in the UK Steel Industry he now consults with Businesses, Educational establishments, local Communities and Churches here and in Europe and works with individuals and groups to bring positive change through the application of Christian principles. He is the author of several books    

Jim’s wife, Barbara is a vital part of the work in the Church  at Scotter. She is employed by North Lincolnshire Council and works within the Library Service.  Her capacity to source and research information on key topics together with her IT skills enable her to bring a blend of much needed help, support and encouragement to the team

Carole Baker effectively leads the youth initiatives in the Church.  Each Wednesday night in the Village Hall Carole masterminds the youth work and is soon to start a work on Friday evenings meeting young people on the streets.  She is a qualified youth worker of immense energy , motivation and calling.

We are seeking to extend our  leadership team during 2010, and looking to the Lord for this as a matter of considerable importance.
