More about our children and youth

Carole Baker
Carole Baker is the Youth Leader within Grace Church and is becoming more and more successful in her work Her bubbly personality seems to attract the attention of many youth and has a calming effect when high spirits take over a bit!! We pray for her in this cutting edge position.
Work amongst young people is very demanding and a good number of Christians in Grace Church support her constantly. Work is divided into three areas, namely teaching the children of Christians on Sundays, Youth Church (Jesus-Link) on Wednesday nights and Friday night work with young people on the streets, all within the Village of Scotter.
Each Wednesday we are in contact with a potential 110 children up to 15 years of age. We meet in the Village Hall along for Youth Church with some 12 dedicated leaders . It is very 'messy' and fruitful. Some 50 children meet each week for fun, relationship, and a cringe-free introduction to Christian principles and social awareness.
Friday nights are a particular challenge in Scotter when youth from 14-18 years gather from neighbouring villages to what they see as their playground. This offers a great opportunity for the building of relationships, but comes as an unwelcome factor to residents when a little vandalism inevitable occurs. We believe that we are affecting change that will lead many to faith in Christ in the future. A monthly drop-in on Friday nights has commenced from 7-9 p.m. next
A very exciting development for us relates to the preparation Carole Baker youth leader to provide training for young people using the Pacific Institute PX2 program. This involves working with young people to help with social awareness and community living. (The Pacific Institute is a Seattle based organisation specialising in programs for youth development). Plans are now in place for a March 2010 start.
We are grateful to the Scotter Parish Council for a welcome grant to enable further development in our youth program.
It is officially reported that disturbance from youth in the Vilage has markedly diminished. What a blessing!!
